"With 2026 now well underway, we are at an opportune time to look ahead at what’s next for our business, Hunterston PARC and the UK as a whole. Nowhere is that sense of momentum more evident than at Hunterston PARC, where activity continues to build as we work alongside partners to deliver a nationally significant energy and marine campus on Scotland’s west coast."
"Hunterston PARC is being developed to support the UK’s blue and green economy, bringing together energy, marine and innovative industries at a scale and capability rarely available in one location. Our vision is clear: to create a connected industrial campus that enables long-term growth, strengthens supply chains and supports the delivery of the UK’S energy transition."
"The site combines over 350 acres of scalable, development-ready land with deep-water port access, on-site rail, and direct national grid connectivity. This unique mix of infrastructure makes Hunterston PARC particularly well suited to energy-intensive and marine-facing operations — from offshore wind and subsea cable manufacturing to everything in between."
"Crucially, this is not a speculative vision. Hunterston PARC already has a growing number of tenants progressing through agreements, underlining the confidence that both industry and Government has in the site and its long-term potential. Development work continues across the campus, supported by a collaborative approach with local and central government and a strong cluster of renewable and marine occupiers taking shape."
"This newsletter has been created to share that journey. In the months ahead, it will provide insight into what is happening across the whole of Hunterston PARC — featuring case studies, partner showcases, market perspectives and updates from key players both in and outside of our business who are helping to shape its future."
"As we look to the future, our focus remains on delivery, collaboration and growth. Hunterston PARC is more than a site, it is a platform for industry to invest, innovate and help shape the future of the UK’s energy and marine economy."
"Together, we have one chance, one opportunity to become central pieces of the UK Green Energy revolution. Lets get started."
Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. Today, they are Europe’s largest renewable energy producer and a global company in energy market operations.
They develop and operate renewable energy assets within hydropower, wind, solar, gas and biomass, supply district heating and buy and sell energy.
Statkraft are now bringing their expertise to Hunterston PARC which will become the home of a new green hydrogen facility, ready to power the UK's energy transition.
The proposed facility would be used for the production, storage and export of hydrogen. Linked to the existing jetty at the site via pipeline, it will allow hydrogen to be exported from the UK on vessels in the form of ammonia.
The development of the facility represents a significant investment and will support many jobs in the local economy.
Stuart Marley, Statkraft’s Principal Hydrogen Project Manager said: “Hunterston is an ideal home for this facility, given its location and outstanding infrastructure. Hydrogen is an important tool in addressing the emissions from carbon-intensive industries, and we look forward to progressing our plans for the site.”
Lewis McIntyre, Managing Director - Port Services at Peel Ports Group, said: “This is a very exciting new development for Hunterston – hydrogen is vital to the energy transition, and we’re proud to play our part in making such a development possible here on the west coast of Scotland".
“It is testament to Hunterston’s vast potential to house a range of innovative renewables projects. Not only are we bringing a brownfield site back into economic use, it will contribute massively to inward investment and job creation in a region that desperately needs it.”
We look forward to helping bring this ambitious project to life at Hunterston PARC and creating a partnership with Statkraft that will drive real, tangible progress for the UK's green energy agenda.
At Peel Ports Group, we have made an industry-leading commitment to Net Zero by 2040 and this guides how we operate, invest and plan for the future. Nowhere is that commitment more evident than at Hunterston PARC, where work is underway to establish a nationally significant energy and marine campus capable of supporting the UK’s green energy ambitions and those of neighbouring markets.
Our ESG priorities also compel us to look beyond our own borders and consider how our infrastructure can support partners, communities and governments in meeting their own climate targets.
With this in mind, we see Ireland as a clear example of where government and industry can combine to enable energy success.
Earlier this month, colleagues from Peel Ports Group attended the Wind Energy Ireland conference in Dublin, engaging with Irish Government officials, developers and supply-chain partners on the scale of the opportunity and the challenge facing the country’s offshore wind sector. Ireland has committed to generating up to 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and to halving emissions within the same timeframe, with full carbon neutrality targeted by 2050.
Offshore wind development is central to delivering those ambitions.
However, across Ireland, progress is increasingly constrained by a shortage of large, development ready coastal sites capable of supporting turbine manufacturing, assembly, staging and long-term operations. This is where Hunterston PARC can play a meaningful role.
Located just 170 miles from Dublin, Hunterston PARC’s Marine Yard is uniquely positioned to support offshore wind developments serving the Irish market. The site offers deep-water access, heavy-lift capability and the scale required for modern offshore wind projects from fixed and floating foundations to assembly, logistics, operations and maintenance.
Recognised as a key European asset for the blue and green economies, Hunterston PARC combines port, power and industrial infrastructure in a way few sites can. The Marine yard, in particular, presents a rare opportunity: a fully designed and costed offshore wind terminal with both land and marine approvals in place, flexible enough to support manufacturing, assembly and project staging at scale.
As Ireland looks to accelerate offshore wind delivery, Hunterston PARC stands ready to offer a practical, near-term solution to one of the country’s most pressing concerns.
